India bans its government employees from using VPN, Google Drive, and Dropbox
- Saint_Genet 4y agoAs far as i can tell from the article, they’re banning the use of such services for doing government business, which seems pretty reasonable
- textread 4y agoAlong with that, they are also asking all VPN providers to store data for 5 years. This is a slippery slope. Next thing you know, to register for your next dose of COVID vaccination, you need to install the government provided VPN service to access the government portal.
- textread 4y agoThe trickle-down effects of such a radical move are going to be interesting. All VPN providers are exiting India. What happens to privacy, slowly destroyed due to collateral damage?
- eucryphia 4y agoThe article doesn't say if this is just for government business. India isn't the only country that restricts use of file sharing services for government business, especially for sensitive information as defined by that country's legislation.
