Software engineering estimates are garbage
- jleyank 4y agoI think this nostrum has become less correct over the decades, as the problems being solved or the business purposes being attempted are recapitulations or extensions of what came before. I mean they’ve already flung rockets to the moon and networked the world and done process control and …. Aside from scale, what’s truly novel about social media that wasn’t done in some fashion on way smaller matches by way fewer people. There’s no real reason to estimate software project correctly or well, so why waste time learning how to do so. And, unfortunately, there’s usually little or no need to make reliable software. Enthusiastic, overworked amateurs are the norm usually doing ip things for the first time.
