I haven't found NYC Wifi to be a problem. Just the other day I was in Penn and got an emergency phone call. I just hopped into Stackbucks and did my thing with no problems at all. While there was no seating, the Wifi was just fine. Now, if you're looking for a place to work you might want to look into co-working instead. In NYC the shops just can't afford to have you sitting there taking up space all day for $10 worth of coffee.
