It's ironic that his "free" computer was funded by the Chinese government.
- waqf 15y agoI'm confused. Would it also be ironic if it were instead funded by the US government?
- jrockway 15y agoIt's actually not. The US government doesn't have to worry about malicious hardware spying on them, because all the hardware is designed (and mostly manufactured) in the US. China, on the other hand, can't trust Microsoft or Intel, so they have to develop their own stuff. Since that's hard, they pawn it off on the Free Software community, who wants the same thing they do (but for different reasons). "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" and all that.
- derleth 15y ago> "The enemy of my enemy is a potential tactical ally for as long as it makes sense."
- felipe 15y agoWhat's most ironic is that the so-called "free" world is incapable of producing a truly free computer.
- coliveira 15y agoThe free world is truly capable of doing that, it just decided that is more lucrative to build non-free computers...
