According to Randall Carlson, "civilization ending climate catastrophies" such as the Younger Dryas extinction event have been ocurring at a tempo of about 1 every ~10,000 years, for at least the last 160,000 years.
So it would seem were about 2000 years overdue for the next one.

- ellopoppit 4y agoImpacts are only one of a number of different theories for the many major climate changes over the past 160,000 years
- ncmncm 4y agoThat's like saying you are due for boxcars. An average rate tells you nothing about when it will happen. We are also late for the earthquake that will wipe out civilization in the Pacific NW USA/Canada. Estimates are two years to restore electric power. Last one was 1700. The tsunami was noted in Japan.
- ellopoppit 4y agoYou don't think averages are useful at all for predicting climate and weather cycles?
- ncmncm 4y agoThey tell you averages, which can be useful. Stats about cycles are also useful.
