Don't know what car you own, but I'm pretty sure I've spent more on my car in maintenance and service since I purchased it than the original purchase price. Add to that the recalls for faulty airbags etc and I see a car as being a lot more high maintenance than a phone, which baring security updates does not require any further work beyond recharging and wiping off grubby fingerprints every now an then.
