I don't think those are incompatible comments.
One commenter is just looking at it from the perspective of the market at large and the other uses a niche DAW, looking at its value for personal use.
Even so, if it doesn't catch on more broadly there's a good chance it's not going to last. Hoping it makes it.
- cageface 4y agou-he is one of the most well known and well respected plugin vendors. Having them behind it gives it a lot of extra momentum. I think it's a fantastic and extremely welcome even if the name is somewhat unfortunate.
- nkozyra 4y agoI'm aware of them and their rep, but it isn't enough to move the whole industry and it's not like they're going to stop making VST/AU options.

- Shared404 4y agoThe article states that there's contributions from other vendors as well, I suspect that this may actually catch. I've not really followed the industry, but my understanding is the controlling interests behind VST are unpleasant to work with for everyone involved - so this is a chance to build something better and in the open.
- mortenjorck 4y agoUltimately, the format will live or die by the ease of porting, which probably hinges on JUCE’s decision to adopt it or not. Having followed the rise and fall of a proprietary plugin format (Reason Rack Extension), both Reason’s storied place in the industry and the format’s technical merits failed to convince a critical mass of developers simply because the many SDK restrictions made porting too costly a barrier to entry for what was already a much smaller market. If CLAP can make porting straightforward while gaining sufficient traction among DAWs, I could see it succeeding.
- jcpst 4y agoI made that 2nd comment. I don’t use Bitwig. But I’ve been an Ableton user for 15 years and have been intrigued by Bitwig since they started. I’m really drawn to their design philosophy and the programmable interfaces.
- pushrax 4y agoReaper and FabFilter getting on board would definitely help make this standard gain some momentum. The list of “Following companies and projects are already evaluating CLAP for their host and plug-in software” is pretty impressive and personally accounts for a large amount of my workflow. Hopefully it gets big enough for Native Instruments to implement, Kontakt could benefit significantly from some of the new features.
- tomc1985 4y agoI wonder if it can be integrated with iPlug2, since that is derived from Cockos' WDL framework (which iPlug2 is based upon) Given that the code for both lives in the same github account, I am hoping for 'Yes'
