Are there any Y Combinator companies who are invested in the advance of nuclear power?
- MrMan 4y agothey are mostly sticking to web3 I think
- jeffbee 4y agoThere's Helion, a supposed fusion power company, but everything about it screams "fraud".
- pfdietz 4y agoI think Helion is the most credible of all the fusion companies.
- ncmncm 4y agoYour and Jeff's statements are wholly compatible.
- pfdietz 4y agoTrue. :) I mean that the other approaches appear to have obvious showstoppers (mostly engineering ones for DT approaches), while Helion has at least a plausible path to practicality. (plausible, adj.: superficially fair, reasonable, or valuable but often specious.)
- ncmncm 4y agoDid you see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31759753 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31759753 ? One of the projects has a plan to get p-11B closer to working. It didn't seem immediately stupid. It would be great to have a system that doesn't depend on unobtainium. Maybe in 50 years we will be able to take down the wind turbines, or explore the Kuiper Belt at length.
- amacbride 4y agoI know of Oklo, Helion, and UPower; there may be others. These three were relatively early (2014-2015 or so.)
- ncmncm 4y agoOf those, only Helion has any hope of a useful outcome. But it is a long shot, not least because of the 3He supply problem.
