Strategic Air Command sortied an SR-71 out of Beale AFB to look for Begich and Boggs, the lost Congressmen. In related news, the Coast Guard has a quiet program that uses National Technical Means (reconnaissance satellites) to aid in some SAR activities. A friend of mine retired as a USAF E-9 and had the requisite clearances, so he was hired on there and sat in a SCIF helping to find lost mariners with the billions of dollars of hardware we have on orbit at any given time. Pretty cool stuff, though I understand why they don't publicize it.
