The innovation was that as you type your password, your phone's rotation (I think it was just 4 possible rotations) was recorded per-character as you typed. So hunter2 might be encoded as "h-0° u-90° n-270°..." etc. I love imagining Apple starting to develop this for iPhones until one of their lawyers delivers the bad news.
