  It has to do with his quote about the Saudis while playing in their golf tourneys. Basically acknowledging all the bad things they are associated with and then shrugging his shoulders and taking the money. “They’re scary mother (expletives) to get involved with,” Mickelson told longtime golf writer Alan Shipnuck for an upcoming Mickelson biography. “We know they killed (reporter Jamal) Khashoggi and have a horrible record on human rights. They execute people over there for being gay."

    Our government still sell them weapons without such clear condemnations, so if that statement tarnishes his reputation, what does that say about the rest of us (US citizens)?

      Considering the amount of oil the US imports from Saudi Arabia[0], I think we're all maybe a little more directly tarnished than by our elected officials allowing the sales of arms.   Fair question. Currently he is in the PR doghouse, which is why he went dark and skipped the Masters and PGA. There is a sense that those that join the LIV tour get tossed on the "naughty" list, but maybe that notion will go away. It will be interesting to see how the crowds treat him at the US Open this week.
