Repeat after me: never buy investments with loans. (In case you didn't realize, a mortgage is a loan.)

      If it's your only house, a mortgage is fine. At that point, it's not an investment, its a place to live. But if you have the cash, don't get a mortgage.

        Why would it have been a bad idea to get a mortgage when they were 2.8%? And why is “place to live” mutually exclusive with “investment”?
