Bank chatbot programmed to confront insults
- Minor49er 4y ago> No, virtual agents aren't real people and don't have feelings. But disrespect towards them is reflective of stereotypes and gender violence faced by real women. If brands unwittingly create spaces in which verbal abuse and sexual harassment go uncontested, that behavior is deemed tolerable and even accepted. If you haven't already done so, time to check your bot's scripts? This conclusion is from a really weird perspective. These bots were put in place originally so that companies didn't have to pay real humans to answer calls. The bots are decorated to be human-like, but people still understand them to be bots and not people, hence the behavior. Instead of conflating how people treat machines with actual cases of abuse and harassment, this author should be advocating for the disposal of these bots and for real people to take these responsibilities instead.
- lbrito 4y agoIt's cheaper to do a publicity stunt like this than to raise the salary of bank clerks (which is basically minimum wage).
- car_analogy 4y agoBut this way they get to conflate attacks at the bank with attacks at women.
