Where is this even coming from? Is someone claiming LaMDA is sentient or nearing that point? Seems like these articles are arguing a point that everyone already agrees with.
- rcxdude 4y agoYes. Very publicly (having several news articles written on it), a google engineer is claiming LaMDA is sentient, to the point of having hired a lawyer to represent it (most of the rest of google seems to disagree).
- exodust 4y ago> Is someone claiming LaMDA is sentient or nearing that point? Yes, a man who works at Google made that claim. In the end it doesn't matter. What matters is that people will divulge their secrets to these "AI" products. Google wants to be right there when that happens. The heart of the consumer. That's why Google has their 7-point AI principles ready to go. A couple to note: "4. We will design AI systems that provide appropriate opportunities for feedback..." I guess the Google guy's feedback didn't meet the standard. Since he was a priest, maybe it's more a religious position to assign actual intelligence to the LaMDA, in which case his religious views need to be protected. "5. We will incorporate our privacy principles..." It's a tough gig, to believe in privacy and transparency so much, but also tracking and profiling people around the web and across devices.
