I find the timing of this story fascinating. We are just a few weeks away from the premiere of the 4th season of Westworld which is a show all about how a more advanced AI chatbot may or may not be sentient. And asks the question — “what does it mean to be real”. I’m not saying that this entire story is viral marketing (but it could hardly be better timed if it were). It’s interesting that these questions are coming up, but until we have computers that have their own inner chat loops (inner monologue or “thoughts”), I think it’s probably an academic exercise.
