- mdanger007 4y agoI'm imagining a day when telephone scammers call up a loved one with AI of your voice.
- echelon 4y agoPeople ask "was that photoshopped?" all the time. Kids will be video calling each other as SpongeBob and Richard Nixon soon. polote is right. In a decade, anyone will be able to make a nude of anyone else with their phone with just one photo. Or any other funny or stupid video or image. The tech is real and is coming fast. We can either legislate it or stop worrying and get used to it. I prefer the latter approach. This is going to be the biggest artistic renaissance of all time. Everyone has something to say, but most lack the years of practiced skill to say it. Not anymore.
- TedDoesntTalk 4y agoWhat do we do when someone creates a deep fake of Putin saying he will nuke Ukraine if they do not surrender within 3 days?
- mtizim 4y agoYou could easily fake a document and post it on twitter. You could fake a photo of putin pointing a gun at ukrainian children easily. What's so different with a video?
- sjkoelle 4y agointeresting discussion from the OG https://writings.stephenwolfram.com/2019/06/a-few-thoughts-about-deep-fakes/ https://writings.stephenwolfram.com/2019/06/a-few-thoughts-a...
- wongarsu 4y agoIf Putin wants to threaten someone, it's on him to make the other party believes the threat. Hopefully Putin has more trustworthy methods of communication than posting videos on Twitter. Like having his ambassador deliver the message in person, or at least confirm it. When this doesn't happen, the recipient can be assured that the threat was either pure PR or fake. In either case it can be ignored.
- commandlinefan 4y agoDo you think that banning a subreddit will stop that from happening?
- echelon 4y agoThe same thing we already do with photoshops and video edits. (Upvote or downvote.)
- martythemaniak 4y agoIt's already a well-established type of scam in Eastern Europe. Scammers call old people late in the the evening. A Distressed Female Voice is in pain, non-specific, calling out "mama, I'm in pain, help, I'm hurt", then the call cuts away to Authoritative Male Voice who tells the old person their daughter was in accident, needs help, needs money etc. etc.
- DrBazza 4y agoThe book, Light of Other Days, has a good take on that - everyone can see everything everywhere with wormhole cameras, they "effectively destroy all secrecy and privacy". So prudishness in the generations that grow up with wormcams is non-existent. (not dissimilar to kids and mobile phones ...) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Light_of_Other_Days https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Light_of_Other_Days

- lolsal 4y agoNudity itself is not the concern; impersonation/fraud is.

- pjc50 4y agoWe're in the middle of a moral panic over trans people at the moment; I think there's a significant community of people who want the world to be much less sexually tolerant.
- hbn 4y ago, I say to the police officer as he shoves me into the back of his car and tells me to put my pants back on
