Audiobookshelf: Self-hosted audiobook and podcast server
- CWuestefeld 4y agoI've been using this for a couple weeks now. It's clearly in its infancy, there's a lot still to do. But even with what it is so far, it's very well done. I'm seeing other users commenting in particular that its syncing between player devices is much more robust than any other tools offer.
- plorg 4y agoThis looks great! I've been self-hosting something with a similarity idea to. I can update manually, pulling metadata from Audible if available. But my version is currently just a rough set of scripts that lists from a directory and builds a static RSS feed I can listen to in Podcast Addict. The (experimental) built-in ebook reader in this project looks really intriguing to allow both collections maintained together.
- r0b05 4y agoThere is no download option on the iOS mobile app :(

- Ruthalas 4y agoIt'd be great if this worked well with podgrab[1]. I'll have to check if the folder structure it creates will work with this. [1] https://github.com/akhilrex/podgrab https://github.com/akhilrex/podgrab
- brigandish 4y agoLooks interesting. Must be something in the air, there was Audioserve posted up the other day https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31713047 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31713047
- bluepuma77 4y agoIs there an Alexa skill available to navigate and play my MP3 audio books?
- schemathings 4y agoLooks fantastic, will give it a try. One thing I like with SmartAudioBookPlayer on Android is for the sleep timer you can have it give a light chime and then a fadeout period - if you want to extend it you just slap/shake the phone enough to have the gyro or whatever detect motion so you don't need to open your eyes and have the light wake you back up to whatever extent. I didn't see that in the app feature list but it may be there, looks like everything else I like already is. Oh, assuming it lets you listen 'offline' with a local copy :)
- resoluteteeth 4y ago> Oh, assuming it lets you listen 'offline' with a local copy :) It does but downloading is buggy and it seems like the position doesn't sync then, which is annoying In theory being able to listen from multiple devices is nice though
- weldedtogether 4y agoWhich client did you download for? Been running this in conjunction with the Android app, downloading works fine and playback sync has been pretty smooth.

- resoluteteeth 4y agoAndroid. On my previous phone downloading worked on its own and syncing the position of streamed files worked but the position of downloaded files wouldn't sync. However I just switched phones and now downloading doesn't work at all (if I try to add a media folder outside of the Downloads folder it will get permission errors; if I add a folder inside the Downloads folder it will allow me to add it but the app will crash whenever I actually try to download a file). Basically it just seems to be incredibly buggy so maybe it's just a crapshoot whether it will work on your phone.
- ace2358 4y agoWould love to be able to host this on macOS! Great work though. Will keep an eye on it :)
- m0ngr31 4y agoYou should be able to with Docker
- apinnes 4y agoReally cool, I'm going to give it a try. My current setup is to host the audiobooks in a Plex library and use a third party app like Prologue [1] on iOS or Chronicle [2] on Android which both work really well for offline listening and progress tracking.
