They should add a high powered laser that points in the same direction as the detection laser (or maybe you could use the same laser, and alternate the power). If a harmful insect can be detected quickly enough, they could fire the high powered laser to kill it
- ceejayoz 4y agoThis has been "coming soon" for years (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquito_laser https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquito_laser), but "whoops we lasered someone's eye" is a fairly hefty obstacle.
- actionfromafar 4y agoSeveral regular lamps/light sources focused on the same 3D spot, possibly tracking it in real time, should also work. The body temperature of the insect only need to be slightly raised for it to die. It needn't be "zapped" in an instant.
- ceejayoz 4y ago> The body temperature of the insect only need to be slightly raised for it to die. The same is true for human retinal cells.
- actionfromafar 4y agoPresumably, the array of lamps would not be aimed at humans, and turn off if a human stepped in the way. Even then, it would only be a problem at the (common) focal point of all the lamps.
