- mavhc 4y agoThat's because they have services that revolutionized whole industries instead, Search, Gmail, Youtube
- sprash 4y agoSearch: revolutionized, yes. But never was announced anywhere. Gmail: not really, web based freemailers are a dime and a dozen and the only thing Gmail brought to the table was more storage space. Youtube: was neither created not announced by Google.
- tehbeard 4y agoehhh, at the time they had some pretty stellar spam filtering... Rest of the industry caught up quickly (both the good and bad)
- scrame 4y ago> Gmail: not really, web based freemailers are a dime and a dozen and the only thing Gmail brought to the table was more storage space. Errr. No? Storage was a game changer, but its search and spam filtering was miles ahead of yahoo/hotmail/etc at the time.
- SonOfKyuss 4y agoAs far as usability goes, Gmail was way ahead of everything else at the time when it came out.
- mavhc 4y agoNot having to manage a tiny 2MB email quota changed everything about email. Also 10x better web client than anything else that was free. There's a reason people were selling invites after all.
- voisin 4y agoGoogle was once a revolutionary consumer services company (Maps, Gmail, search), but that spark is long gone.
- ohCh6zos 4y agoThat's a good point. I don't think I've used a new google product in 10 years, but it use to be a major and exciting thing.
