If it is all different frontends to the same backend, they very much failed at marketing. For an advertising company, creating this much chaos in their branding and communication is very confusing and somewhat laughable.
- q-big 4y ago> For an advertising company Google is not an advertising company, but a provider of space for advertising.
- ClumsyPilot 4y agoDistinction without a difference Its not like they assemble billboards
- joshuamorton 4y agoIdk that really feels like what adsense and such are.
- ClumsyPilot 4y agoDo people that make billboards create complex algorythms to evaluate their efficiency and charge you per each glance the billboard get?
- al_borland 4y agoI'm sure a billboard in Times Square is much more expensive than one in rural Montana. They don't need a complex algorithm, but they are going to charge by the impressions/demand in that sense. More than 80% of Alphabet's revenue comes from their ad business[0]. It used to be up around 97%[1]. Yes, they have a bunch of complex algorithms and way to track, but it's all in the name of selling those ads. If they can target the ads, they can charge more. If they can give exact metrics on the impact of the ads, they can charge more. They bought YouTube to gather data and sell ads. They released Android to gather data to sell ads. They released Chrome to gather data and sell ads. They bought Nest and released routers to gather data and sell ads. Everything they do is being done to further prop up their ad business. Google is the modern billboard company. Without the ad business they wouldn't exist, at least not to the extent they do today. How they sell ads is irrelevant, they are still an advertising company first.
