Wouldn't it be cheaper to run an emulated DOS box on modern hardware? I can't imagine an old 486 is very energy efficient.

- WheelsAtLarge 4y agoI suspect it's more of a know-how issue. Any changes means the guy will probably need to get up to date with new tech. Mainly a waste of time for him if every thing is working fine.
- c22 4y agoIt might not be very efficient, but I doubt the energy use is large. 486s only used 3-5watts or so, nothing compared to later pentium chips that might have consumed 20-30 watts or more. Perhaps better even than a modern efficient cpu running a bloated OS and virtualization stack.
