I think the European Union is already pushing for decentralized identifiers and so on to be implemented. It is an open standard being developed by the W3C and it does seem to genuinely solve a lot of headaches when it comes to identification. The beauty of it is, I guess, that it seems to be thought of as a truly compatible protocol so it wouldn't matter all that much where your data is (which blockchain).
One thing though... it seems like we love to discuss so much about how all these centralized platforms are a problem, that we need democracy and so on. And of course I agree. But democracy is not a technological leap away. Democracy is a way to structure decision making in organizations. But somehow the idea that big tech could be democratized is not something we are really willing to discuss, what would this mean?
In this regard I find work being done by, say OpenCollective and by the Exit to Community crowd, to be much more of revolutionary than work being done by Dorsey. I would love to see more work being put into improving the ways we can use our collective will and strength to make decisions. But that's not what this fantasy is all about. This fantasy is just an extension of the individualism that perpetuates the current system.
Is not all bad, and I do value the vision against this hyper-marketization and I value Dorsey's quest. But we really ought to rethink ownership and I don't really see that being pushed. I think we are all so afraid of ourselves, so entrapped on the patriarchal conception of the father figure that we are scared of exploring new ways of ownership and decision making.

Also liking the concept of 'Exit to Community' a lot. Along with that there are many trends towards more sustainable forms of business with cooperatives of all kinds and coop-of-coops, that are promising in how they re-empower people.
