I agree with you, everyone here is way too dismissive about the claims. To continue the point about its just imitating. If the AI is imitating a possible response a human would give in every instance, would it imitate? Isn't that indistinguishable from sentience? Moreover does giving non sensical answers to some question proof otherwise? My children give nonsensical answers all the time, so do many adults.
