How to contact and tell, ask feature the Github worker/authority to set it to default to the last
- Gigachad 4y agoThe vast majority of git repos are tiny so there is no gain. And most of the benefits of git require history to be downloaded. You’d be better off clicking the download zip button on the git host if you only care about the latest version.
- gigatexal 4y agoNot the repo I work with at work on the daily. It’s got some 30k commits and it’s something like 200 megs or more.
- Gigachad 4y agoThat's really a non issue still. You download it once which for most people is still really quick, and then benefit from the history going forward. I have only seen it as an issue on massive repos like Android where you only really care about compiling from source and not doing actual development.
- dossy 4y agoSorry, if the entire repo can fit in RAM on a low-end consumer PC, it's not large.
- dossy 4y agoIt's a bit of history: https://github.com/Homebrew/discussions/discussions/225 https://github.com/Homebrew/discussions/discussions/225 https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6941889/is-it-safe-to-shallow-clone-with-depth-1-create-commits-and-pull-updates-aga https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6941889/is-it-safe-to-sh... https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6900103/why-cant-i-push-from-a-shallow-clone https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6900103/why-cant-i-push-... Modern git appears to have implemented solutions to these limitations, but old habits die hard.
