Webamp is quite amazing. I use it on my desktop environment website. I recently added playlist support (m3u/pls/asx) and integrated lazy(er) Butterchurn so it can run as the wallpaper. Winamp/Milkdrop forever!

- nighthawk454 4y agothis is insanely cool! it's hard to imagine wasm stuff has come this far
- captbaritone 4y agoSpeaking specifically about Webamp, it is a manual reimplementation in JavaScript. But we did use Wasm as a tool for the music visualizer: https://jordaneldredge.com/blog/speeding-up-winamps-music-visualizer-with-webassembly/ https://jordaneldredge.com/blog/speeding-up-winamps-music-vi...
- nighthawk454 4y agothat's awesome, I'll check it out. hopefully the WebAudioAPI has gotten better to work with over the years
- captbaritone 4y agoThe web audio api code is mostly in this directory: https://github.com/captbaritone/webamp/tree/master/packages/webamp/js/media https://github.com/captbaritone/webamp/tree/master/packages/...
- DustinBrett 4y agoAmazing stuff! Especially the https://github.com/captbaritone/eel-wasm https://github.com/captbaritone/eel-wasm part. It's great to be able to salvage all this internet history and keep it alive and going.
- airstrike 4y agoHow I wish I could listen to Spotify in a Winamp client....
- josephd79 4y agoMe too.
- colecut 4y agoThis was a thing nearly 10 years ago on windows, not sure if it still works https://spotiamp-lightweight-spotify-player.en.uptodown.com/windows https://spotiamp-lightweight-spotify-player.en.uptodown.com/...
- captbaritone 4y agoWebamp has been used to do something like this: https://winampify.io/ https://winampify.io/ (Required paid Spotify account)
- airstrike 4y agoThat is almost perfect, except it requires a browser tab emulating the full desktop. I'd love to have just the standalone Winamp window
- sergiomattei 4y agoWow, your website is insane. Great work.
- DustinBrett 4y agoThanks! Adding stuff like Webamp is my favorite part of making my website.
- because_789 4y agoIt is really cool to be able to open a browser in your desktop and visit your website, recursively. How many levels deep have you tested this?
- r4cec4r 4y agoI was only able to go 1 level deep. I could open the top level browser and load the site which allowed me to open another browser but that wouldn't load the site.
- The_SamminAter 4y agoI tried on my phone, and found that I ran out of screen space before it stopped working. It was interesting, seeing all of the clocks tick, one above another, second after second.
- zelphirkalt 4y agoProperly coded, there is no reason to assume, that it would not work for an arbitrary depth. Considering, that this is on a website, and that it is running JS, which in most implementations does not implement tail call elimination, coding it properly probably involves externalizing the stack.
- rafram 4y agoThe browser is just an iframe, so tail call optimization isn’t relevant. https://github.com/DustinBrett/daedalOS/blob/b1681546a2ce990ad8b6d86c8373d137b377b839/components/apps/Browser/index.tsx#L165 https://github.com/DustinBrett/daedalOS/blob/b1681546a2ce990...
