Not all Electrical Engineers need to learn Laplace Transforms
- airbreather 4y agoAs an EE who has never really directly used the detailed math of Laplace transforms in 30 years of my work, I disagree. The fundementals, especially Fourier and convolution are essential to understand. EE isn't meant to be easy and gaining the degree should reflect a broad understanding of the discipline and the foundations of it. EE is a lot of abstract thought and a lot of math to explain the relationships of the fields and so on, Laplace is essential to this.
- chrispeel 4y agoLaplace, Z, and Fourier transforms are all useful in studying systems with feedback. I'm an electrical engineer, and am not sure that I have used a Laplace transform since university, but I sure have thought about feedback and the stability of systems. If nothing else, one could see learning about Laplace transforms as kinda like a history (liberal arts) course to give you context for later systems and signals courses.
