I wonder, if history took another turn and proposed laws were passed through (so phone providers would have to start to monitor their customers phones) would that mean end of PinePhone and the likes? I mean phones that let people run their Linux distribution and decide what software they want to install?
I can imagine there might be a way to lock GSM module in mobiles distributed to the mass customer so sim cards distributed by provider only work with GSM modules they distribute. I wonder if this would be the case.
And also service like Skype phone would probably be banned too?
Or maybe, when it comes to monitoring they only mean content and not actual communication? So Nokia 3310 would still be OK?
