I had a huge smile on my face while reading this. This has got to be one of the best stories I've read in a while, and a fantastic idea if I ever have kids. I love it. Especially the idea that the dad would slowly start introducing charges to the kid. It's actually a brilliant idea, and more real-world than giving a kid chores and allowance.
