Tesla goes ahead with China hiring event after Musk job warning
- clouddrover 4y ago> Musk last month compared U.S. workers to those in China, saying American workers tended to try to avoid going to work whereas Chinese workers would not leave the factories. "They will be burning the 3 a.m. oil," he said at a conference of Chinese workers. Is Tesla paying the Chinese workers double the wage since they are working double the hours? Or is it paying them a wage for 8 hours per day and getting an extra 8 (or more) hours of work for free? Sounds like there's a lot of free 996 work going on: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/may/12/elon-musk-praises-chinese-workers-for-extreme-work-culture https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/may/12/elon-musk... https://en.pingwest.com/a/8154 https://en.pingwest.com/a/8154
- YW-19066 4y agoMusk is becoming an authentic Chinese capitalist, just like this TikTok story in UK: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-61729896 https://www.bbc.com/news/business-61729896 And Musk is wondering why China's population is about to collapse.
- throwaway4good 4y agoIt is probably a combination of a huge local supply chain, specialist labour, and relative low cost (energy, wage, land ...). Even German automakers are having their electric cars made in China. The article mentions: "Among the posted positions are managers and engineers to supervise the operation of its 6,000-ton die casting machines known as Giga Press, one of the world's biggest." If you have a machine like that, your primary concern is probably not how low a wage you can pay, but rather finding people who can make the machine run as much as possible with few errors and without breaking it.
