Ask HN: What is a movie you keep watching again every couple of years?
- nerbitz 4y agoLost in Translation by Sofia Coppola.
- co1ored 4y agoHere is a few: Dogma, Baraka, Space odyssey 2001 (and other Cubric's movies)
- co1ored 4y agoDogma, Baraka, Space odyssey 2001 (and other Cubric's movies)
- simonblack 4y agoAirplane (aka 'Flying High'). Every time I watch it I see yet another sight-gag or 'get' another joke. Excellent writers, they had jokes within jokes, even. One of the best writing teams ever.
- JacobAldridge 4y agoDid you know Airplane was a remake of an earlier film ‘Zero Hour’? Most impressively, Zero Hour was a serious film that had a script adjusted and combined with directing, acting, and visual gags to create this comedic masterpiece.
- gabrielsroka 4y agoZero Hour? What is it? I've seen Airplane! many, many times and I just found this out recently. There are a dozen or more videos on YouTube comparing the two movies.

- foldr 4y agoBad Education (La Mala Educación) by Almodóvar.
- NickRandom 4y agoRisky Business, Terminator 1 & 2 and Office Space
- _448 4y agoThere are a few (all are based on true story): - Moneyball - Good Night, and Good Luck - Kinky Boots - Telstar: The Joe Meek Story - Ek Doctor Ki Maut (a hindi-language movie based on actual events, chronicling the sad state of Indian research scientists in government institutions; the movie is based on the life of an Indian doctor from Kolkata who developed a vaccine for leprosy. The doctor committed suicide, but the movie has changed that)
- navyad 4y agoNice one, Ek Doctor Ki Maut.
- navyad 4y ago- Fight Club - Mulholland Drive - Mall Rats
- mulhoon 4y agoThe Truman Show I’ve always been fascinated by this movie.
- yellowapple 4y agoThe Thing. Probably part of the reason why it'd be a dream job for me to work in Antarctica.
- wnkrshm 4y agoWatched it again last week. Then another time with the director's commentary (commentary can be found on youtube, audio only). The fun thing is that Kurt Russel is usually there with Carpenter: They have a drink, tell stories about the shooting and have a good time.
- thorin 4y agoThe Doors, love the look of the film and always enjoy kicking back and listening to the music Labyrinth, with the kids now (and Spirited away and Totoro) David Lynch films American Splendor, becomes more relevant with age.

- smilebot 4y agoHot Fuzz
- joddystreet 4y ago- Sin City - Forrest Gump
- avocadoLife 4y agoPulp Fiction. The combination of the upbeat music and memorable dialogue used to make me rewatch it at least once a month, as a feel good movie. I've since dialled it down but will still occasionally watch parts of it. The funny thing is the first time I saw it I didn't like it all due to it's mixed-up order of story telling and, once you put it all together, fairly mundane plot. It was over time that I realised the plot is not really what you watch it for but you watch it for the overdrawn, yet interesting, character interactions in combination with the music and general vibe.

- rtcoms 4y agoPersuit of Happiness
- _448 4y agoNot "Happiness", but "Happyness" :) There is a scene in that move that talks about this.
- hw-guy 4y agoMeet Me in St. Louis It's a Wonderful Life We watch one or the other of these whenever my (now adult) children are home for Christmas. It's family tradition going back to their childhood, and nobody wants to break it.
- galfarragem 4y agoFrom the top of my mind that movie is "Terminator 2". Runners-up: "Scent of a woman" and "The talented Mr. Ripley". Several Woody Allen movies are worth to revisit. "Deliverance" and "Pulp fiction" also.
- breadloaf 4y agoDie Hard 4.0
- gadders 4y agoDie Hard every Christmas. Happy Gilmore periodically.
- RabbitUpRabbit 4y agoThe Big Short
- recvonline 4y agoBarton Fink. Weirdly inspiring, and tells a story like almost no movie I have seen before and after.
- pb82 4y agoFear and Loathing in Las Vegas (a tale about a time and place I have not experienced), The Rum Diaries (surprisingly such a feel good movie), Bang Boom Bang (a hilarious German Comedy)
