It makes sense, dwarf fortress is not suppose to be useful, it's a game, people play for the challenge... so destroying it's usefulness with bad UI doesn't mean much as it's not useful in the first place. But doing the same thing of destroying the usefulness of a actual useful product will cause people to not use it. Replacing the steering wheel of a car with the DF UI, for example, will literally stop everyone from driving it.
