By being an ISP: The Little Garden, which also provided internet services to Cyborganic, Wired, and Hotwired in San Francisco, and of course the early Cygnus offices in Gumby's apartment complex in Palo Alto. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21670035 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21670035 https://www.sr-ix.com/Archive/TLG/ https://www.sr-ix.com/Archive/TLG/ https://www.sr-ix.com/Archive/TLG/TLG.html https://www.sr-ix.com/Archive/TLG/TLG.html https://www.wired.com/1996/04/jennings/ https://www.wired.com/1996/04/jennings/

The first POP was my spare bedroom, ending up with a wall full of modems and CSU/DSUs. The term “ISP” did not exist; as far as I know the only other “ISP” at the time was Barry Schein’s The World in Boston.
