This sucks and perhaps if you talk to your manager they’d be willing to accomodate to your specific case. If no other option remains open, rather than quitting by Friday you could play along and quit when the move deadline comes close in August. This will give you more time to look for something else. Good luck to you and others in this situation. During the pandemic I worked from home for about a year but had to return to office eventually (and got covid-19 twice, luckily it wasn’t too serious). However, some folks were accomodated to work remotely permanently depending on their situation though a few were forced to quit.
