I noticed that there are two "Please don't..." articles on the front page right now:
- Please don't unofficially ship Bottles in distribution repositories (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31658086 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31658086)
- Please, don't build another Large Hadron Collider (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31651086 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31651086)
Both seem like reasonable requests that I am pretty sure I will comply with. It made me curious how common this pattern is. Pretty common, it turns out.
I like that Drew DeVault begging us to not use the new cool chat service for FOSS projects every few years is becoming a thing. (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29712098 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29712098 and https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11013136 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11013136)
Another interesting pattern is that 7 of the top 30 results are from the last year or so. I wonder why.
Edit, not so weird since stories get more and more points over time (I guess?). Here's the stats (5 points or more, has the words "please don't" somewhere in the title):
