Minimum wages: new EU law will promote statutory minimum wages
- Vinnl 4y ago(Original title was too long, so I tried to cobble one together from sentences from the article. Just now noticed that it says "Minimum wages" twice...) For an example of what the effects of this would be, Dutch news mentions [1] that the requirement of minimum wage being at least 50% of the mean wage and 60% of the median would bump the Dutch minimum wage from €10.48 to €14. Additionally, 80% of a country's workers will need to be under a collective bargaining agreement. EU countries will have two years to implement this into their national laws. - nabla9 4y agoSectoral and national collective bargaining in use in many European countries make minimum wage less important (sectoral bargaining is not allowed in the US), but it's probably good to have it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sectoral_collective_bargaining https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sectoral_collective_bargaining
