DialMe – Brand-new phone number without purchasing hassle
- aliyigittabel 4y agoDialMe can provide a web platform to receive texts from brand-new SIM cards for different purposes such as opening a Tinder account. We're open for suggesting to understand which way we should pivot this idea.
- jqpabc123 4y agoI signed up multiple times. Each time I received the same phone number in Turkey. This has been done before. For example, https://www.receivesms.org/ https://www.receivesms.org/
- aliyigittabel 4y agoHey @jqpac123. I'm the founder Yigit. Yes, it's a mockup site and is kind of the same with the temporary phone websites for now, but we're planning to shape according to the needs of interested people. Would you be interested in providing some feedback and receive a couple of months long free trial? If so, I can send you an invitation on Linkedin, my ID is aliyigittabel.
- jqpabc123 4y agoThank you for the offer but I solved the problem with an old phone and this: https://www.ultramobile.com/paygo/ https://www.ultramobile.com/paygo/ This is absolutely guaranteed to work in every case --- even if a security focused service provider insists on verifying the number with a voice call. Privacy is also enhanced.
- aliyigittabel 4y agoAlright, I'm glad you found a solution. This is something that US residents can have but the problem starts to hurt when you're in ID-required parts of Europe and plan to order many more SIM cards. Anyways, if you require specific features, let me know: yigit@dialme.shop
- tech4all 4y agoYes and https://www.PeacefulPhone.com https://www.PeacefulPhone.com (US only, saves voicemail & forwards, accepts sms and forwards)
- jqpabc123 4y agoInteresting idea. I've found some banks that place a voice call before tbey will accept a number for sign up. The obvious security issues with this web service undoubtedly explains wby.
- aliyigittabel 4y agoHey again @jqpabc123. We've heard some banks and fintech firms do that and we can add this feature. For now, popular platforms require only text verification but it'll definitely be in our reminder list. The reason we wanted to test this out is to decide: Whether we should provide a web platform that can help people who need brand-new SIM cards and its capabilities (depending on the needs). And we find it a bit painful to purchase new SIM cards in majority of countries because of the ID and/or in-store purchase requirement. And even if we want to ship a SIM card from no-regulation countries, the cost rises to 10-20X including shipping and taxes. It may even be impossible to ship more than 10 SIM cards due to some country's laws. So, we plan to handle all those things and provide some (or all) features of a SIM + mobile device on our website. Thus, the user can have access to as many brand-new SIM cards/phone numbers as they want. It's also important to note that these AREN'T VOIP phone numbers and also AREN'T provided by Google or Google Voice. That's why, they may have additional functional in terms of testing.
- jqpabc123 4y agoSo, we plan to handle all those things and provide some (or all) features of a SIM + mobile device on our website. I suspect it is only a matter of time before service providers will screen out your service in the same way they do VOIP.
- kevincox 4y agoThis should probably be a Show HN?
- aliyigittabel 4y agoHey Kevin, may be it should, I don't know Hacker News yet, but with time I'll learn. Also this is not the actual product so we wanted to test if there's any attraction at all.
- stefanvdw1 4y agoJust a heads up, the website does not work well on mobile. A lot of text is cut off or outside the screen. Specifically on an iPhone SE
- aliyigittabel 4y agoHey @stefanvdw1, thanks for the heads up we'll solve everything in the first actual MVP.
- andrejguran 4y agoWhy is the name DialMe if the main use case is to receive a message not a call? :/
