Why would they? This is the base M2.
- ysleepy 4y agoM2 will outperform the M1 Pro variants on single core perf, since it is the same across all M1 chips apart from the memory bandwidth.
- skohan 4y agoIt's hard to imagine needing this honestly. I'm typing this on an M1 air, and even on this chip it's so snappy and quick even on things like larger compilation jobs. I'm not on the super-power-user end, but imo the price/performance for the air, as well as the form factor seems to be a sweet spot.
- shepherdjerred 4y agoSingle threaded performance is very useful for gaming, but I agree that the M1 is so fast that anything faster is just a bonus.
- skohan 4y agoWhich games can you even play on a mac?
- dumpsterdiver 4y agoThere's always MUDs!
- opan 4y agoMinecraft with shaders and a high-res resource pack.
- lynguist 4y agoI myself played Ratchet & Clank 3 on PCSX2 on my Macbook Air M1.
- LRAD 4y agoHow does it run? I was looking for this, but no benchmarks online.
- emu 4y agoI enjoyed playing Stellaris on my MacBook M1 pro on a transcontinental flight last night. 4x games work well for passing the time!
- shepherdjerred 4y agoLots! On my base model Mac Mini ($700, M1, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) I've played League of Legends, Factorio, Stelaris, Civilization 6. All of them have native offerings for macOS, and the experience isn't too different from Windows. It's not a great choice for gamers, but for people that only play games casually/occasionally it's a surprisingly good choice.
- alxlu 4y agoI always see people say things like this, but I have an almost fully specced out m1 max and the system grinds to a halt for a few seconds when I do basic tasks like join a zoom meeting from my web browser. Like the mouse will lag, if I’m listening to music it will start to skip or freeze, etc.
- odshoifsdhfs 4y agoI have an M1 pro (16gb) and don't have this issues. Might be worth checking your system/taking it to Apple for a check. Only time I got any similar issues were when I was hitting the ram pretty hard, but MUCH better than my i9 32 Gb with the same problem on memory (FUCK YOU DOCKER!)
- skohan 4y agoHmm sounds like maybe it's a bug or some specific software issue. On the M1 air, I sometimes notice that the battery is draining a little bit quickly, and will check and see that I have like 10 Safari windows open and minimized, with over a hundred tabs in total, but I hadn't noticed any slowdown or performance issues.
- raihansaputra 4y agoi'll echo the others with my experience that i have no problems too. i do see this in m1 with high memory pressure though. docker is always suspect. also long-lingering web tabs.
- odshoifsdhfs 4y agoOne thing that came to mind, which may be relevant to you or not, do you have the Whatsapp desktop client installed/running? A few months ago, an update seems to have screwed up something that made my Mac much slower and unresponsive when it was open (my gf and my ex had the same issues with WA, the moment they closed WA it was snappy again).
- alxlu 4y agoI do have it installed, but it usually isn't running. I'll uninstall it and see if that helps though. Thanks!
