Where is the new Mac Pro? Where is the upgrade to the XDR Display? Where is the M2 Mac Mini? What a shit show.
- TillE 4y agoFor a very long time, the M2 has been expected to launch before an updated Mac Pro - which might still be using an M1 variant, and should be out by the end of the year.
- phendrenad2 4y agoShitshow? Hardly. This is business, you only release the products that sell. Presumably the Mac Pro and Mac Minis aren't selling. Might have something to do with PCs doing all of the same stuff for less money. Packing power into a thin & cool laptop is where Apple shines now.
- jjtheblunt 4y agomaybe they're still in development, or test production runs?
- perardi 4y agoGood faith answer? Supply chains. Good ol’ supply chains. The “Mac” is really the “MacBook”—very solid majority of devices sold are laptops, followed by iMacs, then minis, then a teeeeeny sliver of Mac Pros. Well, probably. People infer it from quarterly earnings. Apple no longer breaks it down explicitly by category. But it’s a very safe assumption the biggest selling Macs, by far, are laptops, and they are prioritizing silicon for those.
- gnicholas 4y agoThe XDR Display did get upgraded — you can now attach your iPhone to it and use it as an external camera for Zoom. Amazing! (The XDR-specific mount will be $249, and you will say thank you.) /s
