While we collectively fantasize about meeting alien sentient beings, I wonder what progress can first be made to really connect with other intelligent species on our own planet? Or augment the intelligence of a corvid or an octopus or a dog, pig, orca with technologies such as a Neuralink neural implant [1]. In the theory of multiple intelligences [2], we recognize intelligences tied to our own senses, such as visual-spatial, musical-rhythmic and harmonic, and linguistic-verbal. How would we go about identifying or even measuring the enhanced olfactory intelligence of animals such as dogs who have a superior sense of smell?
