The point of work is to contribute to society. Sustaining your own life is a side-effect, though it is an important one, as it allows you to contribute more to society. Overworking can negatively impact how much you can contribute, so in that sense it should be avoided.

- cholmon 4y agoI wager the vast majority of people take the polar opposite view: the point of work is to do what's necessary to survive, ideally to thrive. Contributing to society is nice if it can be managed, but it definitely comes further down the list of "things I need to do" for most folks.
