1) it should be said, that Yahoo had a lot of problems, and Marissa Meyer was unable to solve them. 2) Yahoo also may not have done a great job managing remote workers. 3) Small, remote-only companies probably do a better job of understanding how to make remote work productive. ...however... 4) As soon as there is a slack labor market (and maybe even sooner), the big companies will either force everyone back to the office, or have layoffs in which coincidentally most of the remaining remote workforce gets axed.
