Every photo I took of a NATO building disappeared from my camera roll
- moconnor 4y agoNot my tweet, but curious if anyone here knows what happened. Seems so unlikely, but possible via geolocation? iPhone 12.
- eesmith 4y agoWhere around Höfn í Hornafirði? What does "NATO observatory" mean? Are there any other pictures people have taken at this tourist attraction? And with what device? If this was a deliberate geolocation thing in iPhone cameras, then why there and nowhere else?
- infofarmer 4y agoI think I found a few rare old pictures online https://twitter.com/pandrewhk/status/1533366856635281408 https://twitter.com/pandrewhk/status/1533366856635281408 But nothing recent. The innocent explanation would be — it's really desolate and the iPhone glitch was just a glitch. However she mentions it's a tourist attraction.
- eesmith 4y agoShe mentions it was in the distance of the tourist attraction. If infofarmer is correct and it's Hofn Air Station (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hofn_Air_Station https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hofn_Air_Station) then the tourist attraction might be Stokksnes, which Google Maps describe as "Commonly photographed headland with a dramatic mountainscape, black sands & a radar station."
- car_analogy 4y agoA commenter said "You don't own your content if it's stored on a cloud." - did the photos disappear from the cloud, or from the phone's storage as well?
- infofarmer 4y agoPresumably this? https://www.facebook.com/groups/997443017293595/about/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/997443017293595/about/ «This Group is about the radar squadron at Hofn, Island a one time remote tour. - eesmith 4y agohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hofn_Air_Station https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hofn_Air_Station puts it at https://www.google.com/maps/@64.2453995,-14.9690037,3a,75y,141.9h,88.11t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1sAF1QipMjyzQ9MCnnXhZlT6cxzrEwZaDiRxDskFPNYpvR!2e10!3e11!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipMjyzQ9MCnnXhZlT6cxzrEwZaDiRxDskFPNYpvR%3Dw203-h100-k-no-pi-0-ya0-ro-0-fo100!7i6912!8i3456?hl=en https://www.google.com/maps/@64.2453995,-14.9690037,3a,75y,1... and says the building is a civilian ARSR radar used for ATC.
- phillipseamore 4y agoThe only installation in the south-east is a long-range radar station, one of four in Iceland used for monitoring flights over the North-Atlantic. It's partly funded by NATO (and they use data from it), but it's owned and run by the Icelandic Coast Guard. You can walk up and knock on the door and they'd probably ask you in for coffee. - JPLeRouzic 4y agoFrom a DDG search it seems this has happened to many people and is not specially related to NATO buildings: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=photo++disappeared+from+my+camera+roll&t=vivaldi&ia=web https://duckduckgo.com/?q=photo++disappeared+from+my+camera+...
- throw457 4y agoI hate these attention seeking fabricated social posts. It was build by nato got everything military stripped out and is now a civilian ATC side there are hundreds of pictures and videos on the net...the most you will find if you search for the Icelandic names. And as you can see from the recent pictures on google maps it's mainly ruins left https://goo.gl/maps/FmHDr7v7sh1FoUVV7 https://goo.gl/maps/FmHDr7v7sh1FoUVV7 It's either fake or a glitch but looking at the rest of her profile it's an attention seeking fabrication... influencer myths.
