Ethics is a very slippery issue and Dr Hossenfelder is very intelligent.
I say that ethics is a slippery issue in the sense that we as human beings, given the right societal pressure and clever reasoning, can be made to believe moral claims in a way that we can't be made arbitrarily to believe assertions related to, say, mathematics and the physical universe.
A whole generation of highly educated Germans were led to believe that sending Jews to internment camps was the right thing to do. (I will stipulate for the sake of argument that this same public was not aware that the Jews were actually being murdered.)
How hard might it be to convince someone who believes in late-term abortion that killing infants is morally acceptable? How hard might it be to convince someone who believes that an 11-year-old child should be allowed to determine whether he or she will undergo sex reassignment surgery should also be allowed to determine if he or she will have sex with an adult?
