Yeah, why would anyone buying a high-end bike go Shimano if they're going to be hamstrung trying to use the (arguably) best computer on the market with it. This behavior reminds me of the "stuck-in-their-ways" description of another Japanese company (Sega of Japan) in the book "Console Wars". They punched their own ticket out of the console sphere and dragged Sega USA (who tried all they could to right the ship but were subservient of course to Sega Japan) with them.
