I don't want to mention things I'm not 100% sure of but aren't fairly critical components of the editor itself not open source? For example the Remote Containers feature and certain LSP related functionality are closed source? I remember there being some chat about this on HN where the general sentiment was they are benefiting from open source for a lot of LSP related features but decided not to open source some functionality they've added to their LSP implementation?
