- go to any working class area in San Francisco and tell them you work in big tech . See if you are not socially despised . Go tell anyone working blue collar jobs that you work in big tech in the Bay Area or Seattle and see if their reaction is not one of despisal.
That did not exist before unless I was living in a bubble.

This doesn’t have anything to do with being a ‘nerd’ or even “big tech”. It’s about housing costs and the result of NIMBYism from long term residents longing for the past. People are going to move to the Bay, you can’t stop change. If you make it harder only the people with more money will be here which is what’s happening.
- anothernewdude 4y agoI'd say people are moving away, especially those in tech. Why pay more for less when you don't have to?
- shuckles 4y agoMost of the out migration from expensive regions is low and middle income earning families. There’s a net in migration of high income households.
- jen20 4y agoAs I understand it people were complaining about this in the 90s in SF, so yes you were probably living in a bubble.
- shuckles 4y agoDislike of yuppies is almost 40 years old at this point.
- barry-cotter 4y agoOf course they’re despised. Strange people with alien interests doing incomprehensible jobs making tons of money. Animus is normal and actual behavior is ~irrelevant.
