Are they doing anything to restore their credibility though?
- 0des 4y agoProbably going to have to wait for an opposing party candidate to get voted in to know for sure as the true litmus test of their resolve.
- bloodyplonker22 4y agoRight, like when Trump got voted in and they went absolutely nuts and lost all of the little credibility they had left with outrageous out of context articles. I am a centrist who doesn't think Trump has the best platform out there at all (especially with his extreme isolationism and nationalism), but even I was astounded by how crazily they could make things up, out of context, in order to make him and his administration look bad in any possible way to weak minded headline readers.
- 0des 4y agoHow was this comment [dead] immediately right out of the gate? Is there a word filter or does everyone just see red when certain topics come up?
- lapcat 4y agoDid they ever have credibility? CNN came to prominence during the first Iraq invasion, because of their live coverage from inside Iraq. What are the important stories that CNN broke? I can't remember any. They don't seem very big on "investigative" reporting.
- foobarian 4y agoWell they don't even do that any more. Where is Christiana Amanpour live in Ukraine ducking artillery shells? Where is the live video from a Maverick missile approaching a target?
- lapcat 4y agoI suspect the web has changed that a lot. It used to be that CNN was all video, on television. Now people have shifted their news consumption to mainly online text. You can still have web video, of course, but the video/text ratio has changed dramatically in the past 30 years for CNN. Also, anyone with a smartphone can take video and post it online, so video is not as much at a premium anymore. Professional reporters have been obsoleted somewhat by amateurs.
- monetus 4y agoShe interviewed a Taliban leader a week ago maybe, runs her own company I guess. Great YouTube presence.
- kevin_thibedeau 4y agoGo look at clips of CNN from the early 80's to see what they used to be like. It was very quaint compared to today.
- ridgered4 4y agoI thought CNN became a big deal for it's 24 hour news coverage of a kid getting stuck in a well.
- lapcat 4y agoThat too.
- robonerd 4y agoI used to tell people that CNN was the most neutral of all the cable news channels. The channel a business can have running in their lobby or waiting room without signalling a partisan allegiance (unlike Fox, or MSNBC.) I still think that, but I usually keep that thought to myself these days because everybody laughs at me cruelly when I say it. I'd say they've lost a lot of credibility.
- spaetzleesser 4y ago"I still think that, " You shouldn't think this anymore. At least since the 2016 campaign CNN turned into the left wing FoxNews.
- avodonosov 4y agoIn your opinion, what US news channels or web sites are of good quality?
- leach 4y agoI like to read the WSJ
- spaetzleesser 4y agoMaybe NPR. It has a left bias but at they report facts and don't have all these opinion talking heads.
