This is hardly an honest take. They are acknowledging it >2 years after the fact. It is outright dishonest to say that people who questioned "the science" were not ostracized.
- lapcat 4y ago> They are acknowledging it >2 years after the fact. The study was released only a month ago! May 5, 2022 https://www.who.int/news/item/05-05-2022-14.9-million-excess-deaths-were-associated-with-the-covid-19-pandemic-in-2020-and-2021 https://www.who.int/news/item/05-05-2022-14.9-million-excess... The story here is that corrections were made to the numbers for 2 countries in a recent study covering the whole world. The story is not "WHO repudiates everything it ever said".
- throwntoday 4y agoI think you missed my point. Over the last few years one group who have been treating science like a religion to virtue signal online were attacking others for one of the most fundamental concepts of science, questioning everything.
- lapcat 4y agoWho are you complaining about though, the World Health Organization, or just people on social media? If the latter, it's not clear how the comment is even relevant to the linked article. I would repeat what I said about this being overdramatic. If people called you names online, well, sticks and stones. People have been nasty to each other on the internet for almost as long as the internet has existed. There are nasty, bitter debates now online about... Star Wars. The level of victimhood being claimed doesn't seem warranted by empirical reality. Criticism is not ostracism. The other day someone said my comment on student loan debt was "one of the most vile and disgusting comments I have ever seen on HN". Seriously. Student loan debt. (I'd like to know where the HN moderators are, by the way.) The person was clearly a jerk, but I'm not going to claim that I've been ostracized by society for my opinion.
