Folia is a minimalistic authoring tool for narrative games
- isaacfrond 4y agoRead it three times, can't find a single link to an example. What am I missing?
- exodust 4y agoI have a feeling the games can't be played in a web browser.
- AlecSchueler 4y agoBut we'd like to see a code example, doesn't have to be an interactive live version.
- woolion 4y agoWe just took part in the "Text Adventure Literacy Jam - 2022" (https://itch.io/jam/talp2022 https://itch.io/jam/talp2022), organised by Adventuron -- an engine for parser-based Interactive Fiction games, which does run in the browser, as well as the compiled games. Seeing some of the games in other frameworks really shows how convenient and polished Adventuron is. And having to install a platform-dependent binary for an IF feels like a throwback, of the bad kind.
- miniwark 4y agoThere seems to be a non-playable small one on the right, the image with the mascot bird and text.
- riidom 4y agoFor documentation, example code (and also working example) you need to download from itch.io I hesitated at first, but then I saw it on HN for a 2nd time and actually did it. It's no big deal, I'm just used to see such things on a website (as everyone else too, I guess). And to the other comment, it seems to be a desktop app only, yes.
- RcouF1uZ4gsC 4y agoIf you are interested in making narrative games or visual novels, another tool to consider is RenPy: https://www.renpy.org/ https://www.renpy.org/
- darkteflon 4y agoWhat are some great narrative tools and techniques for the big engines - Unreal, Unity, etc?
- aschearer 4y agoFor Unity take a look at Ink, Yarn, and Node Canvas's Dialogue Trees. Currently using the latter for a large project and it's worked out. Ink has a high learning curve. Yarn and Ink will both require a fair amount of glue to connect to Unity -- Ink moreso. You might also check out Unity's Timeline functionality for scripted sequences.
