Forgive student loans has to come with fully free education, since the people who give student loans will start to be more selective on who they give loans to, or stop all together and then nobody gets loans. I don't think either of these things will happen. We can solve the problem and only this generation will have to deal with it but stopping people from getting loans for stupid degrees that don't pay.
- verdverm 4y agoWhat about those that paid their loans or didn't go to college (but will pay for others because of taxes that will be used to pay for them)?

- fortran77 4y agoBut it isn't fair. It's obscenely unfair. Had I known I could have gone to an expensive, elite, University at your expense, I might not have commuted by public bus to a community college for the first two years to save money, and then worked full time while completing the next two years at an inexpensive local college.
- JoeAltmaier 4y agoBut could you? They don't admit just anybody. Many such students are admitted with scholarships. Life is unfair, and that's sad. Still working hard to get somewhere has its benefits regardless of how it got paid for.
- fortran77 4y agoLife is unfair. But forcing me to work harder to pay for someone's 4-year country-club undergraduate experience is more than unfair. It's obscene.

- verdverm 4y agoIt's not a strawman, it's a serious concern of many people, primarily because there is no talk of fixing the actual problem, just handing out more money as a bandaid to a few.
- fortran77 4y agoThey need to stop government-backed student loans if they are to forgive existing ones. Otherwise the problem will never stop. Once loans aren't available, tuitions will drop like a rock and the system will get much fairer.
